Pit bull Attacks Mail Carrier, Owner Faces Trial
October 9, 2008
Westminster, Orange County - A pit bull owner faces up a trial in jail after her dog attacked a mail carrier, which caused him serious injuries.
David Caroll was delivering a mail next door on September 4, 2007 when Sheri Moody’s dog Maggie attacked him.
Carol suffered bruises and cuts and had to get stitches as caused by the dog’s attack.
Initially, prosecutors filed felony charges against Moody for the attack but a judge lessened the charges to a misdemeanor.
Meanwhile, the dog owner contented that she must not be criminally charged since according to her, “a dog attacking a mail carrier is a routine occurrence.”
Prosecutors on the other hand said that as the owner, she must take responsibility, hence she needs to be held criminally liable since there have been several complaints against her dogs which pose threats to the community.
Another incident occurred when her pit-bull mix attacked a visitor in her home.
The trial will continue next week and if convicted, Moody, who has a history of keeping aggressive animals, will face a year in jail.
