Dismissed Workers in 19 States to Receive $34 M Govt Assistance

Washington – The Department of Labor has pledged to give assistance to different states through a $ 34 –million fund that will provide career training for workers who will lose their jobs for trade-related reasons.
Labor Secretary Elaine Chao said the support fund was released to help workers find new jobs and careers and relocate to new places of employment. Under the plan, workers will receive assistance for two years, the official added.
According to a recent statement by Labor Department, the $ 34 million assistance will be given to 19 states under the Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) program. The reserved fund is generally given to states with the large number of unexpected layoffs.
According to department records, the state of California is set to receive $1,379,384 for training allocation of workers, including $466,109 for job search and relocation assistance and $276,824 for administration work, totaling about $2,122,317.
In the last five years, different states have received a total of $ 209 million in year-end funds to help so-called “trade-impacted workers”.
The department is release the next round of TAA fund after Congress approves a budget and the President signs the 2009 spending legislation.
