CPSC Warns Consumers on Coby’s Batteries Fire Hazard

Washington, DC - The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission warned the consumers not to use rechargeable batteries of Coby Electronics Corp., due to reports of batteries overheating with three that resulted to minor property damage from a fire.

The CPSC, in cooperation with the Coby Corp., of Lake Success, N.Y, announced on Thursday, October 8, a voluntary recall of rechargeable batteries sold with portable DVD/CD/MP3 players.

It is stated that the said batteries may overheat, posing fire hazard to consumers.

The importer of the product has already received four reports of overheating, however, there are no injuries reported yet.

The recalled batteries contained in TF-DVD 1020 portable CD / DVD /MP3 players was manufactured in China and is sold in discount, music toy, office supply stores, electronics and distributors of electronics product nationwide.

Consumers may identify the units through its “small laptop computer” look with 10” swivel TV screen where the battery’s serial number is on the white sticker affixed to it.

The consumers are warned to immediately stop using the TF-DVD 1020 with the recalled product and in any case, they may contact Coby Electronics for a free battery replacement.
