Man Sentenced 10 Days per Word for Threatening Judge
March 27
Memphis, TN – Judge Lee Coffee of the Shelby County court has sentenced a man for nearly two years in jail for badmouthing and threatening to kill the judge. Joshua Beadle was held for contempt and ordered to serve 10 days per word after he was stopped from making threatening comments.
The judge stopped counting at 70 words and gave Beadle the penalty of 700 days in jail.
Beadle, who was charged with burglary and rape, appeared in court shackled and wearing a special hooded spit mask. During a hearing in January, he attempted to spit on the judge but missed and hit a clerk’s computer instead.
